1955 Ferrari 500 Modial Scaglietti Spyder
This time classic car expert Ed Fallon talks to the world famous Texas based Ferrari restorer Bob Smith of Bob Smith Coachworks, Inc., who brought a very rare 1955 Ferrari 500 Modial Scaglietti Spyder to the field at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours. Bob has been coming to Pebble for well over 30 years and shown more that 40 cars. Bob is one of the top people in the business.
The Ferrari 500 Modial played an important part for Ferrari in winning their second Sports Car World Championship in 1954. This particular example (the last one of 24 built) was first shown in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1956, where it would become an ice-racer on frozen lakes, wearing spiked tires. The only Ferrari that the factory ever ice-raced.
Then later it was entered into the Mille Miglia an astonishing 17 times, more than any other Ferrari in history. Today the car is presented as it was shown back at the Stockholm Auto Show in ’56.
